Ablative forms

Nouns

In the first declension, the ablative endings are:

word ablative singular ablative plural
puella -ae f. puella puellis

In the second declension, the ablative endings are:

colonus -i m. colono colonis
puer pueri m. puero pueris
magister magistri m. magistro magistris
templum templi n. templo templis

In the third declension, the ablative endings are:

word ablative singular ablative plural
rex regis m. rege regibus
navis navis f. nave navibus
litus litoris n. litore litoribus

Some neuter third-declension nouns have a ablative singular in ·i: the most common is mare, the sea.

These endings are added to the base of the word. You can find the base of a third declension word by removing ·is from its ablative singular.

Adjectives

In first and second declension adjectives, the ablative endings are:
