In the first half of your first year of studying Latin, you will learn noun endings, adjective endings and verb endings.
Noun endings
Nouns change their endings depending on their number and case.
Nouns belong to groups called declensions. A declension is a group of nouns which change their endings in the same way. The nouns you have met so far belong to the first and second declensions.
Adjective endings
An adjective changes its endings depending on its number, gender and case, which will be the same as those of the noun it describes.
Verb endings
A verb changes its endings depending on its person and number. These will be the same as its subject.
Verbs belong to groups called conjugations. A conjugation is a group of verbs which change their endings in the same way. There are five conjugations in Latin: the first, second, third, fourth and mixed conjugations. A few irregular verbs do not belong to any conjugation.
